Solid Bronze Lever and Knobs
Bronze is defined as an alloy of copper and tin, to which small proportions of other metals, especially zinc, are sometimes added. The first applications of bronze were used for tools and weapons, making them harder and more durable then their stone and copper counterparts, that previously had been all that was available.

Solid Bronze Hardware
Bronze is defined as an alloy of copper and tin, to which small proportions of other metals, especially zinc, are sometimes added. The first applications of bronze were used for tools and weapons, making them harder and more durable then their stone and copper counterparts, that previously had been all that was available.
The discovery of bronze and the beginning of the ''Bronze Age'' precede the written history of man. Leaving us with only archaeological evidence, and the interpretation of this evidence, to provide insight into this time period. The evidence evaluation leads to breaking down the term Bronze Age into three phases, early, middle, and late, each phase being assigned a very approximate chronological time line. The assigning process correlates to every civilizations own timing in their discovery, and use of this new metal, bronze.
Keeping in mind that the term ''Bronze Age'' is a fairly generic term, used to describe a very long period of time, unsubstantiated by any written word; even narrowing down a date for the introduction of using solid bronze hardware on doors proves difficult. We know that prior to the mid 1800's function dictated the door hardware, not fashion, but a new concept of design and detail began to emerge in the latter part of the century. A concept that was brought about, in part, by the mass production of the Industrial Revolution.
The Industrial Revolution brought with it changes in design, attitude, and even affordability. Elaborate, stylish, and bold were words used to describe the new architecture. Every detail, from general design to the door hardware was planned to complement each other.
If you are going for the Victorian look of that period, we can help fill your needs. At Designer Doors we offer a variety of solid bronze door knobs, levers, rosettes, and side plates. Available in three ''living'' finishes, dark bronze, medium bronze, and silver patina. A living finish is described as a finish that may change over time depending on environmental conditions, oil in your hands, humidity, temperature, etc.
